Ristikiehtova (a.k.a. Kontrakiehtova)

Originally started out at around years 2005 and 2006, not as a musical direction per se but simply a concept. Members of the band had been making music in different sorts of projects for years before Ristikiehtova, but it was not until these fateful years they grew their spines and slowly knew what to do together. A recurring theme in all of this band's discography is the exploration of human error, especially erroneous subjective interpretation. They claim the project has some strange goal behind it, but none has publicly indulged thus far what it actually is.

'Twas about time for the first official release, EP Lumivyöry at december of 2006. Consisting of harsh rhythmic noise with a couple of ambient breaks and only lasting slightly over 16 minutes, it did not gain immense popularity in any circle, not even the circle of friends and relatives the EP was only sent to. It was finally made public at Jamendo during the year 2007, where it gained moderate popularity, proving that it was not a waste of time to make after all.

Second release, EP Sairaalarantengat 1 (end of 2007) showed a considerable change in the band's style. Very little of the previous album's noise was present, and what was included instead was a heavy dose of Ristik.'s Casio synthesizers. The mood was at the same time playful and schizoid, sending hundreds of people around the world to qualms of surprise and, well, pain. Continuing along the same veins was the spring 2008 release Levossa ja terveydessä, which expanded upon the foundation of soft synths and painful destructive sounds to deliver their clandestine message perfectly well. New influences from video game and pop music were noticeable. At Jamendo it got a very high amount of listens in proportion to actual downloads, I wonder why.

"something that evokes a strong unbearable emotion one would always rather wish to avoid,
but which is cathartic to embrace"

The band is currently composing their next album Arkistohissin matka and it will be released at 2009 or before.
